Glyphs Provide Opportunities for Math & Art to be Integrated
into Social Studies & Science Themes
I integrate theme based art into math by posing questions that the students need to answer as they complete their project. Answer choices determine how their project will be completed. After students complete their art project, I ask each question again and students graph their answers. As a group, we interpret and discuss graph results. This hands on graphing activity provides students many opportunities for practicing counting sets and comparing numbers. It provides our class wonderful opportunities for using math vocabulary like more than, less than, the same, greater than, least, and the most.
