Music, Rice Table, & Easel Painting
As Essential As the ABCs and the 123s
Play and Learning Are Natural Partners
Painting at the Easel
Painting strengthens shoulder and arm muscles needed for support and stability during writing. This is essential for the development of the pencil grasp. Children love to paint and create. Painting at an easel is a joyful and purposeful activity.

Rice Table
Squishing, sifting, sorting, digging, and pouring in the rice table provides many opportunities for discovering. Rice play develops the arm, wrist, and hand muscles used in grasping and in wrist control.
Eye-hand coordination is developed and strengthened as children pour and shift through the rice. Knowledge about volume, weight, and measurement is explored as children play in rice. Many opportunities for problem solving and engaging in conversations with peers happen at the rice table. |
